How’s It Done? Getting to Dents on Your Car

Dents and dings on your car are unsightly and decrease the value of the vehicle. Fortunately, it is possible to remove most dents, like those caused by hail stones or car doors, without an expensive and complicated trip to a traditional body shop.

Paintless Dent RepairPaintless dent repair uses a variety of tools and techniques to remove dents that have not affected the paint job of your vehicle. With this approach, your car can look like it had never been damaged at a fraction of the cost and time of a trip to a repair shop. Many dents are repaired by accessing the body panel and restoring the original contour of the metal. But since not every dent can be easily reached, we’re often asked how we do it. Let’s take a closer look at how we get to dents on your car to make the repairs.

Hood and Trunk

Dents in the hood or trunk can be repaired by removing the inside liner. After the liner has been removed, our technicians can reach the back of the panel to work on removing any dents.

Fender dents may sometimes be accessed through the door opening, but in other cases may require taking out the headlight assembly. In other situations, the inner fender will need to be removed to access the exterior fender panel.

Doors and Side Panels

Dents in a door or side panel may be accessed in a variety of ways. These approaches include access through the window opening or through existing holes in the door frame. In some cases, we have to remove the interior door panel entirely to reach the dent location.

Roof panel vents may be accessed by removing the headliner. Modern cars are designed with a one-piece headliner that can be removed to access the roof panel, which means you don’t have to worry about sagging of your headliner later on.

With dent repair, there’s a great deal of finesse that occurs. Beyond just reaching the dents, the process of removing a dent can take as few as three pushes or as many as 100 to completely restore the contour to its original shape.
